Freesail Bottle Race


Open to all, especially for novice/youth sailors and first time boat builders.

COURSE: Downwind Race, this is the classic model yacht sailing method.

DESIGN GUIDELINES:
  • Select bottles of any size with combined total volume of bottles not to exceed 10 liters.
  • No lead in the keel.
  • Made from found materials or spend less than <$10 for each component. Since these are lightweight boats prone to sink, building materials are recommended to be found or low cost objects (no more than$10 per component). 

Our Master Freesail Mentor Ed Schoenstein designed an innovative self steering mechanism for our freesail bottle yachts. They can be cut from plastic or made with a 3D printer. Email us for the 3D printer files to make your own. 

Freesail Multi Hull Bottle Race (open to all)
COURSE: Downwind Race
DESIGN GUIDELINES: Select bottles of any size with combined total volume of bottles not to exceed 10 liters. No lead in the keel. Made from found/donated materials or spend <$10 for each component.  A multi-hull boat may be designed to participate in the freesail, basic RC (one servo), or Advanced RC race. In 2021, the multi-hull race was RC. From 2023- present, the multi-hull race is a freesail race.
